creating pdf documents from java

one of the next big things i want to learn in java is, how to generate pdf-files from within java for printing. there's a technology called formatting objects processor (short: fop) from apache.org. it seems to be a fancy technology since all you'll have to do is to create an xml document wich contains the plain data to be printed and an xsl transformation file with the formatting hints on how to present the data in the pdf file. the you just have to feed the fop with both douments and you're done!

all neccessary programs and documentation can be downloaded for free from apache.org

new cds

one of the things i'm always looking forward to when i'm in andernach, is the mediamarkt cd store in koblenz. they have a rich sortiment of cds at reasonable prices. the result of today's shopping tour is:

märz - love streams morcheeba - charangoo hundred reasons - ideas above our station

i'm very glad that i got one of the limited editions of the morcheeba album, which contains a bonus cd with all track in instrumental versions - think i'll try to make some home made remixes of the songs.

now i have enough stuff to listen to for the next weeks, since i also bought dover - the last broadcast and hoobastank - dto. last weekend. but still there's the new múm - finally we are no one and the komeit album on my wishlist.

however, i'll try to write some reviews of the albums as soon as i've listened some times to them. tell me in which reviews you're interested most.

tv-tip: 30.06.02 notwist-doku 21:15 3sat

heute abend kommt eine 90 minütige dokumentation über die aufnahmen zu dem notwist album - neon golden. der regisseur jörg adolph hat hierin den 15 monatigen entstehungsprozess in 200 filmtagen festgehalten und auf 90 minuten komprimiert. ist bestimmt interessant - unbedingt ansehen

worldchampionship final pictures


pic 1 - first half, the people per tv set worldrecord: so many people around a tiny 19 inch tv set. anyway it was the place where i saw the first half of the final germany vs. brazil


pic 2 - second half and the white sheet : the place i saw the second half. as you can see they tried to use a beamer which doesn't make a lot of sense when there's sunshine. i saw nothing but a white sheet with some darker spots.


pic 3 - we lost, so party on! : although germany lost many people had a lot of fun after the match.
