creating pdf documents from java

one of the next big things i want to learn in java is, how to generate pdf-files from within java for printing. there's a technology called formatting objects processor (short: fop) from apache.org. it seems to be a fancy technology since all you'll have to do is to create an xml document wich contains the plain data to be printed and an xsl transformation file with the formatting hints on how to present the data in the pdf file. the you just have to feed the fop with both douments and you're done!

all neccessary programs and documentation can be downloaded for free from apache.org
